COM1可以采集提供RS232接入的設備。多為開關電源，智能空調等。
同時也是導入7188EX內置程序的接口。
COM2可以接入同一速率支持RS-485接入的采集設備 。
如果機房設備多，但通訊的參數又不同。那么就可以用擴展7188EX的接口，使用X504 RS-232擴展板，直接插入7188EX的擴展槽中，他就擴展了COM3，COM4。這樣就可以保證機房更多設備的接入。
迷你型控制器I-7188EX是MiniOS7操作系統，MiniOs7是泓格科技(ICP DAS)針對I-7188/I-8000系列嵌入式控制器所開發的小型操作系統。提供下列功能：基本的文件下載及執行功能。系統硬件診斷功能。可以更新MiniOS7的版本。執行 DOS 格式的程序等，支持一個程序運行，提供了豐富而方便的庫函數，其中包括重要的看門狗功能,相關的數據發送和接收函數,網絡的連接，和時鐘中斷函數等等。
這樣通過編程就可以實現監控需要的功能。 
具體設計如下

圖3 基本流程
1．內置的程序對接入的各種動力設備根據有關的協議進行數據采集，不停的遍歷端口，分析數據，保存當前的有用數據。
2．I-7188EX做為一個SEVER服務器。
這是通訊連接的核心。7188EX一直等待監控中心的網絡連接，隨時接受監控中心的命令要求。上傳要求的當前設備的數據。同時根據有關的命令，對有關的設備進行操作，如關空調，開空調等。
3．如果網絡中斷，將儲存有關的數據。網絡一旦連接，根據中心的要求將上傳保存的數據。這一部分將保存在7188EX本身的FLASHROM中或擴展的存儲的設備中。
4．實現監控中心自動更換I-7188EX中程序和配置。更新程序有兩種形式，一個通過COM1口導入程序。另一種就是通過網絡下傳程序，把原來的程序覆蓋。
5．如果運行的程序出現異常，看門狗將根據需要自動復位。保障系統的正常運行
6．網絡自動修復。
